4 Silver Medals for 2012 Indonesian IChO Team
Tangerang -- Approximately at Thursday 10pm (02/08) The Indonesia Chemistry Olympiad arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after finished their job at 44th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) that is held from 21st-30th July at Washington, D.C., United States. For the 16th times Indonesia sent the delegatin which reprensented by:
- Andhika Tangguh Pradana (SMA Kharisma Bangsa, Banten)
- Dewi Suryana (SMAK BPK Penabur Gading Serpong, Banten)
- Ivan Kurniawan (SMAN 1 Purwokerto, Central Java)
- Samuel Leonardo Putra (SMAN MH Thamrin, DKI Jakarta)
Andhika said the difficulty of the problems was relatively more difficult than last year. As an information, Andhika also participated at the same event last year and got silver medal. Besides that, the tight schedule also provided a problems that caused the participant exhausted. Also, a difficulty at calculator aslo provided a problem for Samuel. Meanwhile, Ivan said initially he expected to get gold, but in fact God gave him silver medal and he hope he can fix the mistakes and be better for next year.
The Team's Head Mentor, Riwandi Sihombing, Ph.D explained, On practical and theoretical exam, the indonesian team had given their best effort to finish the exam well. At the practical exam is required a high skillfulness and a good precision, as well a good time management. Meanwhile in theoretical exam, the student's ability to finish the exam is required wide and broad knowledge. The students is also forced to have good and correct imagination. Riwandi said he is satisfied and proud with the achievement of his tutee. The practical exam was give 5 hours to be done and as well 5 hours for the theoretical exam. “I do appreciate and thank for the achievement that is dedicated by indonesian students for their hard works for the country. Without serious and hard works, it is impossible to achive high acknowledgement" said Riwandi.
International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) is the event where the chemistry student of high school represent their own country to show their best ability in chemistry subject. IChO mainly has two session, theoretical examination and practical examination. Since they first appearance in 1997, Indonesia has collected 4 golds, 16 silvers, and 21 bronzes.
