On the occasion of the International Year of Chemistry, EPCA (European Petrochemical Association) together with UNESCO and IUPAC have jointly produced a film. The film is called “CHEMISTRY: ALL ABOUT YOU” and informs the general public that chemistry meets the world’s needs, is creative and is building our future, inspires young people and celebrates the continued contribution of women to science. The film will was shown for the first time in the UNESCO building in Paris at the launch of the International Year of Chemistry on 27 January 2011.
Chemistry: All About YouThe film shows the importance of chemistry in our daily lives. It explains how chemistry provides the global population with access, in a sustainable way, to drinking water, food, clothing, health and health care, energy‐ and emission‐friendly housing, transport, communication and education. At the same time it underlines the importance of women in chemistry on the occasion of the centennial of the 1911 Chemistry Nobel Prize to Marie Sklodowska Curie.
The film targets young people in the 16 to 20 age group.
This initiative supports EPCA’s efforts to promote chemistry worldwide as a provider of sustainable solutions for the world’s global challenges. It helps to explain to a general audience how the chemical industry helps to make the world a better, safer, more enjoyable place to be.
